East Is East is a 1999 British comedy-drama film, written by Ayub Khan-Din and directed by Damien O’Donnell. It tells the story of the mixed race Pakistanis/white British Khan family who live in Salford, Lancashire in the early 1970s.
The film, based on the 1997 play of the same name by Khan-Din, mostly explores the tensions between George, the father, and his children who increasingly see themselves as British and reject Pakistani customs.
